Dramatic soprano Erin G. McCarthy is a frequent performer throughout the Northwest.  She brings a soaring, thrilling voice and captivating presence to the stage.

A recent semi-finalist in the international Elizabeth Connell Prize for Aspiring Dramatic Sopranos (2014), Erin has been featured by Longwood Opera, MassTheatrica, Bel Canto Northwest, Willamette Concert Opera, and Eugene Opera. She has been a guest soloist with the Salem Philharmonic, the Braintree Chorale, Nashoba Valley Chorale, the Paul Madore Chorale, Summersing, Trinity Consort, and the Masterworks Chorale. Her most beloved concert repertoire includes the Brahms Requiem, the Verdi Requiem, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Wagner's Wesendonck LiederStrauss Lieder, and Carmina Burana. Some of her favorite operatic roles include Mimi in Puccini’s La Boheme, Mother in Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, the First Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute, and the title role in Puccini’s Suor Angelica.

Erin has frequently collaborated in recital with soprano Natalie Gunn, mezzo-soprano Sarah Maines, and pianist Susan McDaniel. In 2014 they presented 'A Feast For The Senses' at concert venues throughout Oregon, including Willamette University, Linfield College, and the First United Methodist Church in downtown Portland. Later that year, Erin, Sarah, and Susan performed 'Shadow of the Blues,' a program of works by American composers including the West Coast premiere of Hair Emergency!, an award-winning song cycle by Richard Pearson Thomas. 

As part of a solo recital in Boston (2007) Erin performed an original set of songs by composer Jeffrey Brody.  She later recorded these songs on an original CD of his works, along with his Apache Wedding Song (2006) which was composed with Erin's voice in mind.

For three years Erin was a member of the Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart Festivalensemble, performing under the baton of acclaimed conductor Helmuth Rilling at venues as diverse as the European Musikfest Stuttgart, the Rheingau Musik Festival, and the Herodes Atticus theater at the Acropolis in Athens. She has been honored with awards by the Gibner King Vocal Competition (2001) and the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions (2001, 2005).

Erin's training includes study with Metropolitan Opera star Patricia Craig in Boston and Ruth Dobson at Portland State University, as well as coaching work with Richard Bower and Jeffrey Brody.  While at PSU, Erin worked with opera legends Sherrill Milnes, Ellen Faull, and Marilyn Horne.
